A Conservation Area was first designated on 3 October 1985 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act, 1974) it was later extended on 3 September 1992 under Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas).
