Dead Animals
The Council will remove any dead animals found on public roads, pavements and public open spaces.
We will remove animals such as badgers and foxes as well as domestic pets such as cats and dogs.
We use a microchip reader for identification of pets and, where possible, we will identify and contact the owner.
We cannot remove dead animals from private properties, including gardens.
If you find a dead farm animal in Dartmoor National Park, such as a sheep, please contact the Dartmoor Livestock Protection Society. This includes Dartmoor ponies, but not wild animals.
If you want to report a dead animal on the A38 or any other major road, please contact Devon County Council Highways in the first instance.
If you find a dead animal of an endangered species, such as an Otter, please take a note of the exact location and contact the Environment Agency.
