Market Traders Grant
This grant fund aims to support new and existing market traders to better enable them to trade from South Hams marketplaces. These capital grants should help traders to be able to trade more effectively through winter, encourage traders to operate from all three of our markets and support new businesses to become market traders by minimising their start-up costs.
For the council and our communities this will support the growth of our markets and provide better uniformity of our stalls while retaining the unique brand of individual businesses.

How to apply
From December 2024, eligible organisations with a relevant project will be able to fill out an online application form at the link below. In addition, the South Hams District Council Economy and Place team will be holding drop-in sessions at each of our markets to assist market traders through the application process. If traders wish to apply at one of the drop-in sessions, they will need to bring a copy of a recent bank statement from the account used for business purposes and be able to provide either their Ltd company number, UTR number or charity number.
The application form will require the following information:
- Details about the organisation
- A summary of the market trading activities (existing or proposed) and how the grant will support these activities
- Where items are not being purchased through SHDC, we will need to know which organisation(s) will be delivering the project for your business, and how they were selected
- Detail which items are requested from the prescribed list above
- Breakdown of total project costs (both for SHDC and non SHDC funded items)
