A Conservation Area was first designated on 19 April 1978 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act, 1974)
It was later extended on 31 August 1990 by the Dartmoor National Park Authority under the provisions of the Planning (Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
It was extended again by the Dartmoor National Park Authority on 22 October 1993 under Section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
