A Conservation Area was first designated on 14 September 1973 by Devon County Council, it was later partly extended and partly deleted on 3 October 1985 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1971, (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act 1974).
The Conservation Area was extended on 28 July 1989 under the same Act.
A Conservation Area Appraisal was completed and adopted in February 2010 whereby the Conservation Area was extended and amended.
