A Conservation Area was first designated by Devon County Council on 24 July 1969, it was modified on 3 October 1985 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act, 1974).
It was extended on 3 September 1992 under Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
It was Appraised on 19 June 2002 under Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, Variation of Conservation Area Boundaries - Modbury.
