A Conservation Area was first designated on 4 November 1976 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act, 1974).
It was later extended on 3 September 1992 under Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act, 1990.
Finally it was Appraised on 19 June 2003 under Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990
