A Conservation Area was first designated on 3 October 1985 under Section 277 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 (as amended by Section 1 of the Town and Country Amenities Act, 1974). It was later extended on 3 September 1992 pursuant to the Planning (Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas) Act 1990, Sections 69 and 70. Finally it was Appraised on 19 June 2002 pursuant to the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, Sections 69 and 70, Variation of Conservation Area Boundaries.
