Marine decarbonisation
Marine decarbonisation
South Hams is an area of outstanding beauty, much of which is centred around its estuaries and coastline. The district’s harbours, marinas and boatyards are home to both a vibrant leisure marine scene as well as to a variety of marine businesses.
As a council, we can play an important role in working towards our marine net-zero goals and have embarked on an exciting programme of clean marine activities.
This includes the delivery of a suite of projects aimed at:
- Helping us to understand our current situation. Our Salcombe Harbour Carbon Footprint Project, for example, will also enable us to measure the impact of our carbon reduction activities.
- Decarbonising our Council-operated vessels by exploring alternative fuels and propulsion technologies
- Supporting green marine growth among our businesses and promoting behaviour change among leisure marine users.
