Building begins on affordable homes in South Brent
Work has begun on a development of 40 new affordable homes in South Brent.
The houses are being delivered by LiveWest and Vistry Partnerships. The development will provide 25 homes for affordable rent and 15 for shared ownership, providing a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom accommodation. It's hoped they will be finished by summer 2022.
South Hams District Council has helped support the scheme with evidence of the area's housing need, and the properties will eventually be advertised through Devon Home Choice. The development is located in the boundaries of Dartmoor National Park, where opportunities to provide affordable housing have been limited.
Cllr Guy Pannell, Ward Member for South Brent, said: "I am pleased that work is under way on these new homes. South Brent is a wonderful place to live but that makes it popular too and pushes up house prices. It's good that this scheme will provide homes for people to rent or buy at more affordable prices. I hope that local families will be able to take advantage of this development."
Cllr Peter Smerdon, Ward Member for South Brent, said: "It's good to see this development start after a long time finalising details. South Hams District Council's Housing Team worked closely with the developers to maximise the number of affordable homes. They will provide much needed family homes in this popular village on the edge of Dartmoor National Park."
The development is benefiting from grant funding from government housing agency Homes England.
