If you live in the South Hams area and want to apply for help towards your rental costs, and if you do not fall into one of the categories below, you will need to apply for Universal Credit. Housing Benefit is no longer available to help towards these costs.

Who Should Apply For Housing Benefit?

  • Do you have three or more children?
  • Are you of pension age?
  • Are you renting a property where care, support or supervision is provided by or on behalf of the Landlord?
  • Do you live in temporary accomodation provided by the Housing Department in order to prevent homelessness?

If the answer to any of these questions is Yes, then you will need claim Housing Benefit with us.

How do I apply for Housing Benefit?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, you will need to apply for Housing Benefit. Please sign up for an online account. This provides a safe and convenient way to access our Council Tax and Benefits services.
