My employment history: On leaving Colyton Grammar School, I worked for a few months in ground services at Exeter Airport for Westpoint Airlines. However, ambition led to twenty five years in banking and fifteen years as a Branch Manager. This was followed by twenty-seven years as a General Manager working in retail, holiday accommodation, catering and tourism based industries for employers JC & BR Holland based in Dartmouth. I also worked as a freelance correspondent and rowing reporter for the Herald Express for twenty years and I've been the Clerk/Treasurer to St Petrox Trust Lands for over thirty years.
My main hobbies include rowing (river, coastal, gig, seine boat, whaler and ocean rowing) and being a member of Rotary International for over thirty-five years having held most of the offices in the Dartmouth Club, been President twice and recently presented with a Sapphire Award. I have also had a long association with the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta having joined the committee in 1975; including a twelve-year spell as Secretary and two terms as Chairman; and I am now an Honorary Steward and President.
My interests include a special attachment to Dartmouth and Kingswear, numismatics (the study and collecting of coins and medals), at which I would like to spend more time.
