COVID-19 Additional Relief Fund

The Government has provided Local Authorities with funding to assist Business Ratepayers that have been affected by COVID-19, but have been ineligible for other business rates support.

We have checked our records, and written to Business Ratepayers who may be eligible for a reduction in their business rates for 2021-22 from the fund. This is a rate relief and not a cash grant.

These eligible businesses have had a one-off reduction against the 2021-22 financial year awarded to their account.

To be eligible, businesses must

  • Have been in occupation of the property during 2021-22 financial year
  • Not received the Extended Retail Discount or Nursery Discount for the property
  • Not be insolvent
  • Have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Not breach the subsidy control limits by receiving the relief

If the business or property does not meet the criteria above, you will not be eligible for the relief. If that is the case, please contact us and we will remove it from your account.

Let us know if you are not eligible

Subsidy Control Limits (Formerly Known as State Aid)

The business must also keep within their obligations under the subsidy control (formerly known as state aid). This is where the business receives additional aid from Government bodies such as discretionary help or grants.

Please note, if you are unsure of you legal obligations regarding subsidy control, the Council is not able to provide you with any advice. You will need to keep evidence of the award under subsidy control.

For more information, please read the Government Guidance note.

Accepting the relief means that you confirm that you are entitled to it, and will notify the Council of any relevant subsidy control awards totalling above £343,000 in accordance with the subsidy control rules. You can notify us of these awards using the button below:

How will I receive the relief?

You should have received a recalculated business rates bill with a covering letter informing you that you are eligible for the relief. Your remaining instalments have been reduced by the amount awarded.

If you had paid your 2021-22 Business Rates in full and would rather have a refund of the amount of the CARF award and continue paying the current 2022-23 instalments, you can request a refund using the button below:
